New York State Local Government Data Search

Basic Search Criteria - Trend Report
Performing a search to obtain Local Government property tax cap, revenue, expenditure, and tax limit trend information is a simple process.

  • The drop-down box for Type of Local Government. This box will display a list of eight classes of local government. Select one class.
  • Select whether you want to search all entries under the class of local government you chose or an individual local government. If this type of search is not available for that type of data or class of government, the selection will be grayed out.
  • If you want to search all, proceed to select a year or years. If you want to search an individual local government, select the name of the local government from the drop-down menu or type it in the blank box.
  • Select the year(s) you want to view data. Up to six years of data can be displayed per search.
  • Select the type of report to view. You can select a Tax Cap Report, Revenues and Proceeds of Debt Report, an Expenditures Report, or a Tax Limit Report. You can also select individual categories of revenues, expenditures, or tax limit data.
  • Click the Submit button to begin your search.

Basic Search Criteria - Comparison Report
You may also search to obtain a comparison of property tax cap, revenue, expenditure, and/or other tax limit information among local government units.

  • The Type of Local Government drop-down box will display a list of eight classes of local government. Select one class.
  • The Available Local Governments drop down box will then display a menu of local governments. Select one of more of these.
  • You may compare different classes of local governments by selecting a different class from the Type of Local Government list, and then selecting units from the Available Local Governments drop-down menu for that class.
  • Up to four local governments may be selected.
  • Select one year.
  • Select the property tax cap data, revenue, expenditure data, or tax limit data you would like to view. Tax Limit Data is applicable to counties, cities, and villages.
  • Click the Submit button to begin your search.

Revenues, Expenditures, and/or Tax Limit Data Search Result Page

Display Subcategories
Clicking on a category under Revenues or Expenditures will display its subcategories and the dollar amounts for each year. Clicking on the category again will hide its subcategories.

View Bar Chart
This will only appear if you select more than one year. Clicking the bar chart icon will display a bar chart of the revenue or expenditure totals for the selected years. Tax Limit Data for more than one year will also be displayed using the bar chart.

  • Place the cursor over each bar to view the year and total revenues, expenditures, or tax limit category in dollars.
  • Click on a bar to view a pie chart displaying all revenue or expenditure categories and dollar amounts for the selected year. This is not available for tax limit data.

View Pie Chart
Clicking the pie chart icon will display a pie chart of all categories for the selected year. This is not available for tax limit data.
